Become a U Host!
The U is the Young Foundation's newest venture in partnership with NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts)
The U Northumberland is the second of three pilot sites around the UK launching in 2011/2012.
The U is a new venture that is aiming to make communities stronger and happier by providing citizens with the opportunity to learn practical skills in an innovative way.
The U is looking for enthusiastic volunteers keen to make a difference in their communities. Volunteers will be trained to become a host. The role of Host is to lead 90 minute learning sessions in their own communities. The U Hosts' role is to encourage people to share their own experiences and get to know each other as much as it is about imparting information
Hosts will get facilitation skills training from expert trainers, and get trained in citizen skills by the U’s learning partners - including the British Red Cross. You will be given all the materials and information you need to prepare yourself to deliver a learning session at The U.
The first Host Training event will take place in Hexham on Saturday the 10th and Sunday 11th September, followed by a dress rehearsal, which Hosts can attend either on the 15th or the 20th September.
The focus of the first key skills module is “Be a Lifesaver”, teaching Hosts 7 key skills for responding to common medical emergencies.
