Funding Surgeries with the Lloyds TSB Foundation

For any Northumberland charity contemplating applying to the Lloyds TSB Foundation Mr Peter Ellis, the Foundations Grants Manager for the North East & North Yorkshire, will be providing advice.

The Lloyds TSB Foundation’s Community Programme focuses on funding the core work of charities that help disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community. They are particularly interested in work that achieves this through: Improved social and community involvement; Improved life choices and chances and Helping people to be heard. Building a Sustainable Future

Building a Sustainable Future is an intensive and participative two day training course. It is intended to help with the creation of a strategy to ‘ride out’ the challenging times and build long term sustainability into your organisation’s planning.

Participants will be given tools to help their organisations plan for the future, analyze risk, build on strengths and eliminate weaknesses. There will be opportunity to create a fundraising strategy to support goals and learn new fundraising techniques as well as looking at how to manage change effectively and keep the team focused and on board. The course is targeted at key workers and trustees and it will be particularly beneficial if they can attended together if possible.

The course will be provided by MBA Associates. A two course lunch and refreshments will be provided on both days. A commitment to attend both days is required.

Health & Safety Awareness

The course will provide an introduction to health & safety issues you should consider as a voluntary & community sector organisation. The course will consider employee and employer responsibilities, risk assessments and welfare issues.

The session will be provided by Health & Safety expert John McCormack. Refreshments will be provided.

Participatory Investigation

The course will provide the tools and techniques for Participatory Investigation. The course will explore and record the ‘evidence of need’ taking you through the steps and activities needed to gather evidence. The course will consider practical ways of obtaining qualitative evidence to support funding bids, promotions and marketing as well as offering practical advice on working with and involving people.

The session will be provided by Peanut who are part of Northumbria University. Refreshments will be provided.

Making the Most of Monitoring & Evaluation

The course will provide the tools and approaches for making the most of your organisations monitoring and evaluation. The course will give you the skills to check the progress of your project and explore what you have done well, less well and any changes you should make. The course will consider practical ways of obtaining qualitative evidence to support further funding bids as well as adding quality to annual reports. This is not a process based course and has participatory tools and activities as its main focus.

The session will be provided by Peanut who are part of Northumbria University. Refreshments will be provided.

Introduction to Running a Voluntary Group

The course will be beneficial if you are new to a committee or thinking about setting up a new group. Alternatively you may be a current committee member who is ready to take on new responsibilities and thinking of becoming an officer of the committee. The course will help you understand the principle reasons for, and activities of, management committees, roles and responsibilities of the members, the jobs and tasks of the individual officers, how to build an effective committee and holding effective meetings.

The session will be provided by Carolyn Fothergill and Stephen Humphrey of Wansbeck CVS. Refreshments will be provided.

Funding Fayre

A Funding Fayre that will see representatives from a wide range of funders providing information on the latest funding available to groups in the SE Northumberland area. The Fayre will be informal with opportunity to discuss potential projects with funders. Funders who will be attending include the Big Lottery Fund, Awards for All and the Sir James Knott Trust. Refreshments will be provided.

Marketing & Promotion

The course will benefit those organisations who wish to improve the marketing and promotion of their organisation. The course will consider promotional materials, website, social networking and press releases, focusing on what message you want to send out to the public.

The session will be provided by marketing expert John McRae. A buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided.
