The Re:Action Project
The project assists elderly and disabled people and their carers live independent lives.
Independent Living
We support elderly people with mobility or confidence problems access town centre services by providing accessible transport and volunteers to assist with wheelchair pushing, guiding and support - promoting independence and choice. We currently run the project twice a week, but are looking to extend this into other areas because of the demand on this service. We have received a lot of feedback from our service users on how this project enables them to keep their independence.
The project also encourages people to volunteer in the Health and Social Care field, providing them with many training opportunities, with support that allows them to carry out their tasks. This brings many benefits such as the volunteers improving employment prospects or going onto further education particularly beneficial in an area of high unemployment.

Volunteers
Volunteers are recruited to help provide the Re:Action and act as "enablers" assisting people to access activities and services rather than carrying out tasks for them. People who are interested in career in Health and Social Care would particular benefit from volunteering with the project. No specific qualifications are required however a volunteer should be reliable, a good listener and have the ability to communicate well.
Volunteers are asked to complete and application process which includes application form, references, police checks, confidentiality statements and induction day.
Volunteering is very rewarding not only are you helping other you are also improving yourself by learning new skills, improving your career prospects and generally having fun.
