Ashington Community Gala and Street Fair - Sunday 17th July (11am - 5pm)
The first Ashington Community Gala Day is to take place on 17 July 2011, from 11:00 to 5:00pm, bringing together a mixture of live music and arts performance, sporting competition, fairground rides, street stalls and also the first Farmers Market to be held in Ashington.
All residents are being encouraged to turn out in numbers and be part of the day. The event, which will be officially opened by the Town Mayor at 11:00am and run until 5:00pm, will be focused on main Station Road and will feature something for all tastes.
The music on the bandstand will be provided by Newbiggin Brass Band and Wansbeck Singers with a number of other local bands featuring on a stage outside the Town Hall throughout the day including DTOA, Mad Hatters, Cruise Elroy, Living Daylights and Exile. Local community radio station Koast FM are also on hand helping out with event announcements and other compere tasks.
The event, which has been organised by community groups and organisations in the town will also include a junior’s cricket competition at Ashington Cricket Club, and a Farmers Market, a feature that the town council also hope may become a more permanent part of events in Ashington during the year. The event is also tied in with the Real Ale & Cider festival running from 14-17 July 2011 at Ashington Cricket Club and Bubbles Wine Bar will also be open all day to coincide with the Fair. What more could you want for a great day out supporting your home town?
