New mobile application to locate volunteering opportunities

+U is the name of a new free mobile phone application that will match users with local volunteering opportunities from the Do-it database. This app is produced by the volunteering charity YouthNet in collaboration with the electronics giant Sony and provides a database of over a million volunteering opportunities with 28,000 organisations across the UK.

The release date of the application is set for September, as in the coming months the application will be thoroughly tested by YouthNet and Sony. 

Through this application users will be able to share their experiences through social media networks such as Facebook or Twitter, and several proposals to award points for volunteering are currently considered and will allow people to compare their efforts with their peers through a ranking table system.

Emma Thomas, CEO of YouthNet, affirmed her belief that there is currently a huge potential to develop the ways in which people can be encouraged and motivated to volunteer, and that this application is part of the sustained efforts of charities to achieve this.
